Decade by Decade changes of Information System

The first article I read “Glorious and Not So Short History of Information System Function” talks about the history of the information system. There has most definitely been a substantial evolution when it comes to different information system functions over the past decades. The article summarizes a timeline of the evolution, starting back in the 1950s. Back then, the data processing started, where activities such as modifying and retrieving data on a daily basis were the key take-aways. Moving forward to the ’60s, specified reports and displays got introduced. In the’ 80-’90s, the goal was to provide both internal and external information to boost the strategic objectives (Rudy Hirschheim, 2012).

In 1981, Gary Dickson distributed the first and last broadly perceived recorded effect of the field of the management information systems (MIS), now more commonly called information systems (IS). There is little uncertainty that the IS field has arrived at a degree of development that has raised it to an acknowledged order after ‘2000. Be that as it may, while the area has accomplished a specific degree of development, there is impressive decent variety among its individuals as far as exploration interests, research networks, and convictions about what has a place and doesn’t have a place in the field. Such assorted variety can be viewed as necessary on the off chance that we consider it proof of past advancement (Rudy Hirschheim, 2012).

My learning from the second article “Evolution of Information System Function,” gives me a clear picture of the evolution of the Information system through decade by decade. In the early decade of ‘1950, we are more concerned about data processing and data management (Vaish, 2017).

Later in the ‘1970s, we concerned about decision support, where they use Pre-specified reports and displays to support business decision-making and onwards in the next decade as an evidence tool to executive support of executives. Later it processes to knowledge management and Business. It leads to early ‘2000 when e-business integrated. The internet, as well as other technologies, changed the way of working. The Information System and Business cycle run parallelly, day by day information systems take the lead position of making value through Business. All the areas that developed from the early ’90s are still relevant today. Still, the difference is that today’s solutions are more innovative and effective compared to when it all started (Vaish, 2017).

From the analysis of the two articles, other than the advancement of data frameworks establishment and support, the evolution of information management is high, the patterns and assessment of the data frameworks have changed organizations by organizations in decades.

Businesses can be acted in a considerably more productive manner than with the customary manual frameworks. As the innovation keeps on propelling, it abandons questions that these data frameworks will keep on getting increasingly operable, productive, and compelling, improving business tasks every minute.
